Star Ocean: Second Evolution for PS4 and Vita Not Going West Yet

In an interview with Siliconera, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness producer Shuichi Kobayashi stated that the recent port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution to the PlayStation 4 and Vita is not westward bound.

Star Ocean: Second Evolution is remastered port of Star Ocean: The Second Story, which released for PSP in 2008 in Japan and in 2009 in the US and Europe. The Second Evolution port has additional features for the PS4 and Vita, and has been in Japan’s hands since October 2015. Even Japan’s PS3 owners got a chance to join the Second Evolution in December 2015. However, publisher Square Enix has no plans on bringing the port to the West as of yet, according to Kobayashi. At the same time, he was quick to add that these were his own thoughts, and he would love to release it West.

Yamagishi-san he was the producer that created the PSP remake and released the PS4 and Vita version in Japan. After he released the remake he hasn’t really done anything for the West. At this moment, there are no plans to release that title in the West.

However, these are my personal thoughts and nothing has been decided yet, but since I am kind of rebooting the [Star Ocean] series I know that I can’t leave it alone. I would love to release it somehow. Maybe create a back catalog or have some way to purchase it because I know a lot of people and maybe even people who play this new title would want to play the older [Star Ocean] titles too.

I know we should probably do this. I don’t know if it will be me or Yamagishi-san again, but there should be a way to do this. There are no plans this moment, but I am thinking about it.

Square Enix has almost made a livelihood out of saying that something released in Japan had no plans for the West, and then in a year or so a release is announced. Chances are if Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness sells well in the West, they’ll look into porting the older games that they’ve re-released into the West as well.
