Taking cross-buy to another level, VBlank Entertainment released Retro City Rampage DX for PlayStation Portable yesterday in North America (Europe gets it next week), priced at $9.99 and free to all owners of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita versions.

Explaining why Retro City Rampage was brought to PSP, developer Brian Provinciano said the port dates back to 2009, but was shelved in favor of the PS Vita version. Thanks to the success of the other versions, “the dream of having the game on UMD suddenly seemed viable,” so he “started finishing it up as a side project, but unfortunately, UMD production halted without warning and made that impossible.”

Deciding to release it anyway digitally, Provinciano added:

The PSP was one of the first platforms I worked on after entering the industry, and RCR:DX’s PSP version is my opportunity to give it a nice send off. The handheld will always hold a place in my heart, both as a gamer and as a developer.

With UMD production discontinued and the PS Store on PSP closed, Retro City Rampage: DX will likely mark the final PSP game ever released, but it can still be downloaded onto your PSP via your download list, or via USB using your PS3 or PC.

For those of you who missed out on the PS4 physical version of Retro City Rampage back in 2014, Provinciano will be selling more copies from the official Vblank Store starting this Friday at 10am PT.

This PS4 physical version includes brand new cover art, disc art, and a manual. The first 3,000 copies ($30 each) will be individually numbered and come with a gold logo color variant, a PSP display case and manual, and digital copies for PC/Mac/Linux/MS-DOS.

Provinciano didn’t say exactly how many copies will be available.

The next game from VBlank, Shakedown Hawaii, is coming to PS4, PS Vita, and PC.
