Tallying up the games sold at retail from December 28, 2015 to June 26, 2016, Famitsu has released a list of the best-selling games in Japan so far in 2016.
The first four spots are taken up by 3DS games, with Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 #1 overall, selling 610,000 copies. The first PlayStation 4 title, Dark Souls 3, shows up in 5th with 313,000 sold, and the first PlayStation Vita title, Dragon Quest Builders, placed in 7th with 288,000 sold.
Keeping in mind that digital sales aren’t counted, but digital download cards bought at retail and bundles are, here’s the best-selling games in Japan so far this year:

For publishers, Nintendo was at #1 with 2.83 million. Square Enix followed in 2nd with 2.39 million, and Bandai Namco was in 3rd with 1.42 million.
Looking at hardware, the PlayStation 4 managed to defeat the 3DS, and the PlayStation Vita easily topped the Wii U:

Both versions of Yo-kai Watch 3 didn’t come out until July, but after just two weeks on the market, they’ve combined to move 801,000 copies – far ahead of Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3.
