Star Wars Battlefront players will be glad to hear that the upcoming DLC expansion titled Death Star, will be coming with a brand new mode. The new mode is called Battle Station and it has players flying X-Wings, A-Wings, and TIE fighters in space.
The main objective is for the Rebels to destroy enough TIE fighters until their Y-wing support can come in to weaken the Star Destroyer’s defenses. Once vulnerable, Rebel starfighters can attack the weak spots in an effort to bring the Star Destroyer down. The full details on how the mode plays out can be found below:
In Phase 1 you’ll be flying X-wings and A-wings against TIE fighters and TIE interceptors in space! The main objective of this phase is for Rebels to destroy enough TIE fighters until their Y-wing support can come in to weaken the Star Destroyer’s defenses. Once vulnerable, Rebel starfighters can attack the weak spots in an effort to bring the Star Destroyer down. In an effort to help defend this key asset for the Empire, players along with AI ships will be set up to help defend the Star Destroyer.
Phase 2 will have players fighting inside this iconic space station among areas inspired by the classic trilogy. Rebel infantry will be tasked with extracting a priority droid from within the Death Star. Amidst the chaos of battle, you’ll be able to gain an advantage by taking up arms as our new heroes Bossk and Chewbacca!
And finally, in the culmination of the new mode, players head back into space where the Rebels need to end the battle once and for all – by blowing up the Death Star! Players can become the hero of the Rebellion, Luke Skywalker, in his Red-5 X-wing as they attempt to destroy the Empire’s ultimate weapon. But beware as Darth Vader has been dispatched to protect the Empire’s asset in his TIE Advanced.
We also got a little more insight into the upcoming PlayStation VR mission set in the Star Wars Battlefront universe. Criterion Games producer, James Svensson, sat down with the PlayStation Blog to answer a few questions. We learned that the VR mission will take place at the same time as the upcoming Rogue One film.
Rogue One is in the same time period the base game covers, so to be relevant in the ever-evolving Star Wars universe we’ve since been able to work with Lucasfilm to make the connection here
When asked about how the mission will play out, Svensson said:
These things are huge and powerful with a belly full of TIE fighters. Being in a fight with a Star Destroyer is not a situation an X-wing pilot wants to find themselves in, but that’s where the player ends up. The player will have to keep their wits about them, with an intense battle ensuing from every direction, to keep them and their wingmen alive as they complete a critical mission for the Rebellion.
The Death Star DLC is set to release this September, while the Rogue One: VR Mission is set to release alongside the PlayStation VR.
