Bethesda on Fallout 4 PS4 Mods: “We Don’t Lack for Alternatives”

Earlier this month, Bethesda revealed that Sony “will not approve user mods the way they should work [on PlayStation 4]: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.” While Bethesda said they “hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience,” they made it clear that mod support for PS4 won’t happen until Sony allows it.

On Twitter recently, Pete Hines, Bethesda’s VP of PR and Marketing, was pointed towards this fan video about three ways mods could be implemented on PS4. In response, Hines said they don’t lack for alternatives:

I assure you we don’t lack for alternatives. We are trying to do the most possible for PS4 players.

In another tweet, Hines was asked by a user why Bethesda is pinning the blame on Sony when it’s clear they have an exclusivity deal with Microsoft. He replied:

That is absolutely not true. We would have released mods on PS4 some time ago if it was up to us. We were told no.

When someone suggested they never even started work on PS4 mods, Hines said, “No, it was done and submitted to them.”

Hines also talked about how there’s “no more DLC” for Fallout 4, the Skyrim Special Edition Trophy list for PS4 is the same as PS3, and we’ll get more Skyrim Special Edition footage before launch on October 28.
