According to a report from Nikkei, Sony is planning to release five or more mobile games around March 2018, and they’ll target Japan and other parts of Asia. The report also says the games, currently in development, will likely be announced by the end of the year.
Nikkei adds that “some older games that cannot be played on the latest hardware will be revived,” and the games may also be linked to consoles. Since consumers tend to be drawn to mobile games associated with well-known consoles, Nikkei says Sony is hoping to capitalize on this and bring mobile gamers to their consoles.
This report follows last month’s comments from Sony CEO Kaz Hirai, who said they’re “aggressively getting into” mobile gaming.
Sony will release their mobile games through ForwardWorks, which was opened earlier this year. When the company was first announced, Sony said ForwardWorks “will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles.” They added that ForwardWorks “will aim to deliver users with opportunity to casually enjoy full-fledged game titles in the new field of the smart device market.”
