Sony was expecting hundreds of thousands of PlayStation VR sales at launch and, according to Media Create, over 51,000 of those came from Japan. Although PSVR debuted at #1 in hardware, things weren’t as bright on the software chart, with PlayStation VR Worlds the only exclusive to chart, moving 6,000 copies and finishing in 8th.
Looking at the other new release games, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration for PS4 opened in 2nd and sold 21,100 copies. After Paper Mario: Color Splash in 3rd, Divine Prison Tower: Mary Skelter for PlayStation Vita debuted in 4th with 18,400 sold. Then, all the way in 19th, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens for PS4 sold 3,200 copies.
