Continuing with our “Best Of” 2016 game awards (we kicked off with Best Casual Game), we’re now taking a look at the best racing games on PlayStation 4 that was released this year.
While the genre isn’t as packed like in previous years, the racing genre still had its fair share of gems. Fortunately for us, there’s still a few games that made us happy to go around in laps. Just a disclaimer: the nominees and winners are based on scores and are picked by the staff (not just the highest review score).
With Gran Turismo Sport coming out next year, it’s going to be a heck of a tougher race (pun intended) to win. Let’s hope the usual suspects like Need for Speed, etc. all race out in 2017 as well. What was your favorite racing game this year? And did we miss anything?
Don’t forget to check back all throughout the month for our other “Best Of” picks of the year! Be sure to follow PlayStation LifeStyle on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram and YouTube for the latest in PlayStation coverage.

DiRT: Rally
This is the game rally fans have been waiting for. DiRT Rally boasts a simple title that reflects its deceptively simple goal: to be the best rally game, or even the best racing game, released to date. While they may fall a little short of being the best racing game ever made due to its purposely limited scope, DiRT Rally is by far the best rally game we’ve ever seen. DiRT Rally sports world-class visuals, visceral, challenging racing, and true-to-life audio design. This is really a complete package for rally fans the world over.

NASCAR: Heat Evolution
NASCAR: Heat Evolution is the only way to relive the thrills of NASCAR racing on PlayStation 4. There aren't many features or modes, but Monster Games' latest game offers some solid racing that can give gamers' their oval racing fix.

F1 2016
Codemasters created a great foundation for themselves when they made F1 2015. It wasn’t the greatest F1 game ever, but it looked and ran great. Building upon that foundation, F1 2016 added quite a few bells and whistles, along with a meaty career mode and an unforgiving Pro Career mode that is as much fun as it is difficult.

Assetto Corsa
Assetto Corsa is a hardcore racing fan's delight. If you don't mind spending dozens of hours trying to fine tune your racing line, then this is the game for you. It released pretty hot with some technical issues and faulty AI, but thankfully the developer has fixed several of these issues. It's a much better game now than when it released.
