Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has turned in his 2017 industry predictions ahead of the new year, claiming that Sony will reduce the asking price of the standard PS4 (i.e. the Slim model) to $199 by December 31, 2017.
Word comes by way of GamesIndustry.biz, which has pulled together a handful of experts — SuperData’s Joost van Dreunen, EEDAR’s Patrick Walker, IHS Markit’s Piers Harding-Rolls, and Kantan Games’ Dr. Serkan Toto — to offer up a series of forecasts and estimations regarding Nintendo Switch, virtual reality, and much more. Among them is Pachter, who led with the prediction that Sony will slash the PS4 price some time next year.
Per GamesIndustry: “PS4 price goes to $199. I think Sony is intent upon keeping Microsoft in distant second, and expect a price cut for standard PS4 (slim) to $199 before year-end 2017.”
For the sake of perspective, the PS4 Slim currently retails at around $249.99, with many of those entry-level bundles also including a game in the vein of, say, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. As such, don’t be too surprised if Pachter is actually on point with this one.
What do our readers make of Pachter’s forecast? Indeed do you think a PS4 price cut is in the cards?
