In our final Best of 2016 award winner before we crown our Game of the Year for 2016, we list down and pick the winner of possibly the most contested genre we have for the year, and that’s the “Best in Action” category.
While some of the games included in the nominees could also be nominated for other genres, we thought it best to stick the game to the genre where its gameplay mechanics are used the most. And don’t forget, same as in our other awards, the winner was picked based on the total number of votes it got among staff, and not based on the review score.
Did we miss a game that should have been included in the list? Which title is your top PS4 adventure game of 2016?
Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see which game we crown as the best of 2016! Be sure to follow PlayStation LifeStyle on Twitter , Facebook , Google+ , Instagram and YouTube for the latest in PlayStation coverage.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Naughty Dog could beat the series into perpetuity, but they chose to close this chapter of their story at a high point and allow themselves and players to move on. In some ways it feels like I’m playing Uncharted for the first time again, living that sense of incredulity and adventure as we join Nathan Drake and his charming half-tuck for one final adventure rooted in love and sacrifice. It’s a bittersweet feeling, but they’ve gone all in to make sure that A Thief’s End is the Uncharted finale that the fans deserve. A farewell this monumental is spectacularly deserving of a nomination for Game of the Year.

Rise of the Tomb Raider
Everything feels naturally placed in the environment, making the world feel alive. The contextual storytelling helps to drive the urge to complete everything, and I found myself constantly deviating from the path just to explore one more crypt or raid another secret tomb. These tombs turn up the nostalgia with puzzles reminiscent of early Tomb Raider gameplay. The massive release of Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 offers plenty of action that shows it deserves this nomination.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Deus Ex is a great franchise that is a nice example of how to successfully reboot a series when Human Revolution released in 2011. Exactly five years later, we received Mankind Divided , and what a sequel it turned out to be. An intriguing story, incredible ambiance, choice-laden combat, and multiple ways to play ensured that this sequel would be one to remember and play time and time again.

Dishonored 2
Dishonored 2 returned us to Serkonos, to a different city known as Karnaca. The setting may have changed, but the game was Dishonored through and through. This stealth-action first-person game featured intricately-designed levels, which often incorporated vertical elements which, combined with either main characters' powers, essentially dropped you into a sandbox and let you loose, allowing you to solve your problems in whatever manner you saw fit. There's just something satisfying about sneaking through an area surrounded by armed guards without them ever having a clue.

Dark Souls III
The Dark Souls series is known for being brutally tough, and the third entry by FromSoftware was no exception. This is not a game for the feint of heart. You will be tested, chewed up, and spit out by even some of the game's "easier" characters. Many of you will try and fail at the game, but there are few games that feel as rewarding when progress is made.
