First announced back in 2013, 2D action-adventure title Forma.8 is releasing digitally on February 23 in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, iOS, and PC, developer MixedBag Games (Futuridium EP Deluxe) announced today. A limited physical copy for PS4 and PS Vita will be available “soon” from Limited Run Games.
Studio Co-Founder Mauro Fanelli explains that Forma.8 includes a huge world to explore, a unique visual style, and gameplay targeting 60fps:
As the small exploration probe forma.8, you’re stranded alone on the surface of an alien planet. Separated from your companions by accident, you have a life or death mission to accomplish: find and recover a lost, powerful energy source before it’s too late. And not everything is what it seems…
Forma.8 offers all the gameplay hooks of the classic metroidvania formula: a huge world to explore, a unique control system, power ups to collect for unlocking new zones, enemies to fight, puzzles to solve, a cryptic story, and huge bosses. All presented with unique visuals — using a combination of lovely hand drawn vector graphics and 3D characters to bring the world of Forma.8 to life with a targeted silky smooth 60 frames per second.
Forma.8 will also feature cross-buy on PS4 and PS Vita, as well as native 4K support on PS4 Pro. In Europe, it will cost €14.99 and PlayStation Plus members will find a launch discount.
There’s 30 Trophies in Forma.8, including a Platinum and six Golds. The Trophy list has some story spoilers, but it looks like you’ll have to complete the game and unlock all of the secrets to get the Platinum.
