Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Announces WB Games New York

In a press release, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, the publisher responsible for such gems as the Batman Arkham franchise, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and more, has announced a “WB Games New York.”

If you assumed it’s a new studio developing AAA games, you’re sadly, mistaken. According to the press release, WB Games New York will be a “a service provider of online features and web-based communities for the company’s video games. The WB Games New York team builds cloud-based gaming backend technology, which allows developers to quickly add online features to their games on almost any platform.”

We understand the importance of expanding the connected communities of players, and with WB Games New York, we will have a strong foundation to grow our player connectivity with our digitally powered console and mobile games as well as live service gaming

– Steven Chiang, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Production and Studios, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

WB Games New York will be headed by Studio Director Steven Flenory.

While not a traditional studio announcement, this is way better than hearing more news about layoffs, no? And who knows, maybe WB Games New York might one day be working on their own gaming franchise.
