Released last year for PC, Obduction, the latest game from Myst creator Rand Miller is finally available today on PS4 and PSVR. In a surprising twist, Cyan revealed today that the PlayStation version of the game comes with exclusive content not found in the original release. The new area is a Russian submarine trapped in a cavern. Cyan also said that the new content will offer “greater insight into the backstory of the characters and places, and two new music tracks composed by Cyan software and audio engineer, Hannah Gamiel.” You can listen to one of the new tracks, “Broken Arrow,” on Gamiel’s Soundcloud.
Cyan credits the PSVR version to a partnership with the VR division of Legendary Pictures, the studio behind The Dark Knight Trilogy, 2014’s Godzilla, and Kong: Skull Island, among many others.
“Legendary has always been driven by a passion to empower great storytellers to tell great stories, no matter the medium. Having successfully developed innovative storyworlds across film, television, comics, live experience and virtual reality, Legendary is thrilled to have an opportunity to continue pushing back the narrative boundaries of storytelling by bringing our brand of elevated, fully immersive VR to the gaming space alongside a groundbreaking studio like Cyan, who has truly revolutionized the computer gaming experience for its fans,” said Ethan Stearns, VP, Legendary VR.
“We already had a great relationship with Legendary Pictures as they have the options for a Myst TV show. Now as they expand into VR for both interactive and entertainment, it’s very exciting to be working work with them on the road map ahead,” said Rand Miller, CEO of Cyan, Inc.
Rand Miller was recently interviewed by The Witness creator Jonathan Blow on the PlayStation Blog. We also have our own Rand Miller interview from PSX 2016.
Obduction is available now on the PlayStation Store for $29.99. The PSVR update for Obduction is “coming soon,” but is included with the purchase of Obduction PS4. Our review of Obduction is coming soon.
