E3 2017 was open to a limited number of public passes that were sold by the ESA, changing the dynamic of the video game industry’s yearly trade show. According to a leaked version of the E3 2018 registration page, it looks like E3 2018 public passes will be available again, with a little bit of tweaking to help accommodate media and other industry passes without having the battle the public crowds. The FAQ states “E3 is now open to consumers and game enthusiasts, on a limited pass basis.”
On ResetEra, a user by the name of Rösti crawled the E3 site to find the not-yet-active registration page for E3 2018. This page lists the exhibit show floor hours, and shows that industry passes will be allowed in earlier than general consumer passes.

It was inevitable that E3 2018 would be open to public attendance, but as someone who goes to E3 to do a job, I’m glad to see that they are being accommodating for industry passes. This site isn’t live at this time, so things are subject to change (and it’s not currently known if there are a only a limited number of consumer passes), but E3 registration usually opens around the end of December or early January, so we can expect to see this information confirmed soon.
