It what is the ultimate case of “a friend of a friend of a guy I know’s friend,” it seems that the next world for Kingdom Hearts 3 may have leaked. Screenshots seem to show a Monsters Inc. world coming to the long awaited Square Enix/Disney mashup. The leak was posted on ResetEra by a user that claims he is the fifth rung on the ladder from where these came from, so they’ve been through a few hands before they were shown to the public. This is what user Wrestleman had to say about how he obtained the screens:
I run a shitty little discord server for the remaining users of a dead forum that I ran in the mid 2000s to present. It’s a Crash Bandicoot server at its core but since there’s not a lot of Crash stuff happening post-N.Sane Trilogy yet, it’s mostly a shitposting server. One of our members came into one of our channels, and posted the three images. I did some quick research to see if it had spread to Era or any of the KH fansites yet. Noticing it had not, I asked the guy where they came from. He told me that he saw them on another server (or rather, he just said “I saw them somewhere else”). He went back and asked the ORIGINAL poster of the images where they come from. THAT person then told him “I got them from a friend who got them from an FTP server where they were quickly removed afterwards”.
With that in mind, take this leak with a grain of salt. They could end up being elaborate fakes for the sake of stirring the Kingdom Hearts pot, though with Toy Story confirmed, it’s not too far-fetched to think that other Pixar properties are in the running.
The two screenshots show what appears to be a boss fight (or just a large enemy), with Sora, Goofy, and Donald all sporting colorful monster looks that fit in with the theme of the movie. In both screenshots, the one-eyed Mike Wazowski can be seen, and in the second, Sully is standing nearby Sora. Other forum users have also pointed out that the symbol on the enemy is that of the Unversed, an enemy type that has previously only appeared only in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep.
If these screenshots are real, they would seem to be from an older development build. Most of the time, the portraits will match the character styles, and these portraits don’t have Sora’s purple hair, Goofy’s green skin, and Donald isn’t blue. It’s been pointed out that the yellow kanji in the lower right corner means “temporary,” likely referring to those HUD graphics which bear resemblance to older trailers and screenshots of Kingdom Hearts 3.
