Few gaming series are as prestigious as Metal Gear, and currently Konami’s signature brand is in a bit of a transitional phase. It’s a post-Kojima world for the series, and only time will tell if it’ll keep its luster. That said, Metal Gear Rising showed that other developers can handle the series, and Metal Gear Survive is set to show another side this week.
That’s why the question we posed in this week’s Now Loading was “Metal Gear Survive releases this week, and is the first game in the series to be released since Kojima exited Konami. If you had control of the series, what would your next move be?”
Check out the gallery below to find out what the staff thought of this week’s question:

Of I were in control of the series going forward, I’d just focus on remaking some of the older titles with the FOX engine tech. Realistically, fans won’t be pleased if Konami tries to create its own Metal Gear Solid game without Kojima, so their safest option is probably just to remake some of the older games and bank on fans getting overly nostalgic.

I would go back to what made the past games so successful in my eyes. I would do away with the open world and tell a tighter story. -

Forgive me if I don't trust Konami with Kojima's legendary franchise. I loved the ending to Metal Gear Solid V (seriously, the twist is a brilliant bit of handiwork made possible by Kojima's insanely brilliant mind) and don't want them to continue to sully the franchise without Kojima at the helm. Metal Gear Survive already seems like an abomination that doesn't deserve the name, no matter how good the game ends up being. If anything, hand Metal Gear Solid over to Bluepoint to have them do a complete remake for modern gen. Otherwise, leave it alone. The legend of Snake is over, and some things deserve to rest. -

Honestly? Another collection. I would try and make a Legacy Collection caliber affair with Metal Gear Solid V added in, with 4K and/or HDR available for the titles that make sense. Metal Gear Survive is probably going to bring in some new fans with how different it is from the other games, why not take advantage of that and give players a chance to try the other games out (and make some money in the process)?

Providing Survive is a success, I'd expand on that survival-based gameplay and maybe lean on the tactical espionage action that made the series so famous. The bat-shit story of Metal Gear is ostensibly all wrapped up, so I'd wager that the franchise's future – if there is one – lies with multiplayer-focused titles. And that's despite the fact MGO struggled to leave much of an impression...twice. So perhaps a full-blown remake of MGS a la FF7 is the way to go?

I thought it was really smart of Konami to use MGSV's engine for Survive, so I'd keep harnessing the FOX Engine tech for one. I also think that fans are very hesitant to a new direction for the series (thus the pushback towards Survive), and that they want something that is a traditional MGS experience. That's why I think it's time to remake the original Metal Gear Solid (not like many people can play Twin Snakes anymore), and make the classic title better than ever with the new engine.
