Dying Light 2 is one of the biggest surprises to come out of this year’s E3. Developer Techland’s hard work on the sequel to their first-person zombie game has, thus far, proved impressive. The announcement trailer signifies as much, especially with the teasing of how choices dynamically change the narrative. But it’s what the reveal trailer does not give away that has fans most intrigued. Currently, details about Dying Light 2’s multiplayer suite are minimal. Still, Techland is readily confirming at least one detail.
Do not expect a Dying Light battle royale mode for the forthcoming sequel. Tymon Smektala, the studio’s lead designer, delivered the news in an interview with GameSpot. According to Smektala, “Dying Light 2 doesn’t have a battle royale mode… that’s not the thing we are focusing on. But of course we are looking at what is happening on the market, and I think we will have some surprises for people that like to play multiplayer.” The developer isn’t yet ready to divulge what these multiplayer surprises entail.
Those curious about what Dying Light battle royale plays like shouldn’t let disappointment weight too heavily on them. The upcoming standalone expansion, Bad Blood, will mesh the franchise’s survival tactics with the appealing dynamics of battle royale-styles of play.
Techland has yet to announce a release date for Dying Light 2.
