You thought THQ Nordic was done scooping up video game franchises? Well, think again, because the video game publisher just added more IPs to its stable. Influential horror series Alone in the Dark and real-time strategy game Act of War are the newest additions to the THQ Nordic library.
Alone in the Dark has been around since the early 1990s, and is considered one of the first survival horror series. Its last game, Alone in the Dark: Illumination, was a co-op multiplayer title published by Atari. Act of War: Direct Action was released in 2005, also by Atari, and featured a story by bestselling author (and Air Force captain) Dale Brown.
If you’ve been keeping track, this is only the latest in a long series of acquisitions by THQ Nordic. Earlier in September 2018, it had announced it took ownership of the Kingdoms of Amalur IP from 38 Studios. Despite owning the IP, EA still owns the publishing rights to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, making a remaster slightly more complicated. It also scooped up the Timesplitters and Second Sight frachises. Way back in February 2018, THQ Nordic announced it acquired Koch Media, bringing franchises like Dead Island and Metro into the fold.
