Capcom is in some hot water after releasing the video for Dante’s in-game theme, “Subhuman.” The song was from deathcore band Suicide Silence. The track already received a negative reception following its release, but Capcom pulled the video after allegations of sexual misconduct resurfaced.
Back in 2017, a 17-year-old accused lead singer Eddie Hermida of sexual manipulation. Hermida responded to the allegations and apologized, but stopped short of fully owning up to the allegations. Capcom, who claimed to be unaware of the allegations, quickly removed the track, though unofficial versions remain online.
After the song’s removal, Capcom issued this statement to Waypoint:
“The music was recorded for the game before the incident came to light and we were unaware of the incident until now. However, as we are now aware of the current situation, Capcom has decided that moving forward, we will not further highlight the Dante battle theme for promotional purposes at this time. We are also currently evaluating what options are possible for the full game at this point, which is dependent on various factors such as resources.”
As of right now, Capcom has not disclosed any formal plans to replace the track. Devil May Cry 5 is set to release on March 9, 2019, so there would presumably be time to change it, should Capcom make the decision to do so. Devil May Cry 5 was previously revealed during E3 2018.
