If there’s one thing we know Capcom loves, it’s crossovers. From rubbing elbows with the heroes of Marvel comics to having Phoenix Wright team up with Professor Layton, the famed Japanese company loves having franchises mingle. In no franchise is it more evident than the iconic Street Fighter series. In Street Fighter V alone, the fighters have donned costumes from all over the Capcom library. From Resident Evil to Mega Man, Capcom hasn’t met a franchise it doesn’t want to put into Street Fighter.
Fighting games are some of the clearest examples of a “live service” game, as they have continuous updates to keep the fanbase engaged. One of the biggest parts of that equation is the never-ending stream of cosmetics. Some are free, while others are premium. Some may be more popular than others. However, they are a chance to both distinguish your personal character and to add a bit of levity to the violence that will ensue.
With Street Fighter V, Capcom has really taken advantage of the opportunity to give players a constant stream of costumes. The best thing about Capcom having such a deep well of titles is that the developers have the opportunity to really get weird with these looks. While some are quite obviously promotional tools, others shine a light on franchises that haven’t seen new entries in decades. Sometimes, the only way for series like Darksalkers and Viewtiful Joe to get recognition these days is via a Street Fighter costume.
There are plenty of costumes in Street Fighter 5 to love, but we wanted to highlight some of our favorites. Some have been around for a while, while some are brand-new additions, but they all have one thing in common: they’re extra-stylish.
What are some of your favorite Street Fighter V costumes? Let us know!
Street Fighter Crossover Costumes March 2019
-
Ken as Dante (Devil May Cry)
Dante is essentially one of Capcom's mascots, so of course we're going to see him represented in Street Fighter. It's a shame to see that more wasn't put into this outfit, like giving Ken white hair. He also doesn't use any of Dante's trusty weapons, but that's expected. This is a purely cosmetic change, after all. But it's still great to see Dante represented here.
-
Cammy as Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)
This costume is notable for one thing: it gives our girl Cammy some pants! Sure, she's dabbled in bodysuits before, but these cargo pants are a new look for the militaristic fighter. With this outfit, no enemies, whether they be Crimson Heads or Lisa Trevor, can stand a chance. Raccoon City or bust!
-
Ryu as Mega Man (Mega Man)
One iconic Capcom mascot takes on the look of another. Both Ryu and Mega Man are some of gaming's oldest icons, so it's fitting to see the face of Street Fighter don the look of the Blue Bomber. Plus, having the Hadouken come out of the Mega Buster is genius.
-
Rashid as Air Man (Mega Man)
This is definitely one of the sillier costumes out there. It stands out so much from the usual crop of Street Fighter looks that it just had to be included. It would've been awesome to get some real wind powers with the costume, but we'll take what we can get. This totally wins, in terms of creativity.
-
Alex as Leo (Red Earth)
One of the coolest parts about the many Street Fighter crossovers is that it is a chance to dig deep into the Capcom vault and bring out looks from some more obscure titles. Unlike other Capcom arcade titles, Red Earth has never been ported to a modern system, meaning this is one of the few references to that game we'll get. This costume of the half-lion/half-human Leo is not only cool in terms of its context, it simply looks great. Who doesn't want to beat people up dressed as a lion?
-
Chun-Li as June (Star Gladiator)
Another relatively obscure reference, though this one is a console game. This outfit is unlike anything else Chun-Li has donned, and that's what makes it so awesome. From the color, to the design of the outfit itself, everything here is on-point. Plus, her hair has never looked better.
-
Juri as Lilith (Darkstalkers)
The best kind of crossovers are crossovers with fellow fighting games. While in the Darkstalkers series Lilith is a Succubus, in Street Fighter she's simply someone with an awesome outfit and equally-awesome wings. The eyepatch still gives her some of that classic Juri flair, however.
-
Ken as Rathalos (Monster Hunter)
Monster Hunter has gotten representation in Street Fighter. While it's always been popular, it truly became a phenomenon when Monster Hunter: World hit the scene. Having Ken decked head-to-tie in Rathalos armor shows that he's not here to play. He's ready to take on any fighter (or monster) in his way, and he'll likely come out on top.
-
Ryu as Arthur (Ghosts 'n Goblins)
For a series that hasn't really made much impact in recent years, Arthur sure has made the rounds. From his recent appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite to this, the knight sure knows how to make his presence known. Unfortunately, while there is an easter egg of Ryu in his boxers, the costume doesn't come apart piece by piece. That would've been the best.
-
Rashid as Viewtiful Joe (Viewtiful Joe)
Viewtiful Joe is a beloved series that sadly has seemingly lost its time in the sun. However, nothing is truly dead in Street Fighter, so Rashid once again gets a pretty awesome costume. Maybe we'll get another Viewtiful Joe game in the future, but at least he gets some love here.
