Reflection on the nuances of love is often critical to moving forward and learning, which the “contemplative puzzler” Solo: Islands of the Heart explores in spades. This introspective title from Team Gotham and Merge Games (Northgard, VR Ping Pong Pro) originally released on PC back in spring 2018. Now it is set to arrive on consoles soon, with a PlayStation 4 release date slated for July 30th in North America and July 31st in Europe. Solo’s worldwide launch on Xbox One is scheduled for July 31st; it will hit the Nintendo Switch a day later on August 1st. The game’s $19.99 price tag will be further cut thanks to a 20 percent discount on all platforms.
Solo: Islands of the Heart’s is meant to encourage players to reflect on the love in their past and present relationships, as they navigate across numerous dream-like islands. The game’s gorgeous archipelagos offers plenty to experience, from a branching narrative and puzzle-solving ventures to interacting with adorably unique creatures.
Multiple archipelagos are scattered throughout Solo, each made up of several small islands. The sailor must solve a unique puzzle on every one of them, before receiving access to Sleeping Totems. Upon opening these totems, players will need to answer a question about love and relationships. All of the myriad questions should inspire players to recollect and mediate on their experiences with love and relationships as a whole. Does such an experience actually work as the developers at Team Gotham intended? Everyone will have to come to terms with this on their own.
In the brief trailer featured below, see what all Solo: Islands of the Heart will have to offer when it finally comes to console platforms next week:
