shadow of the tomb raider sales

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Appears on Korean Rating Board’s Website

A file hosted on Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee’s website mentions Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for the Xbox One and PC.

As spotted by ResetEra user Eroke, the file contains a list of games that have recently been rated. Upon downloading the file directly from the website ourselves, we found both the aforementioned versions.

Tomb Raider games are no stranger to the Definitive Edition treatment but this one might surprise some because Shadow of the Tomb Raider‘s Croft Edition, which includes the Season Pass alongside a few extra goodies, is currently available for $30. This makes us wonder what’s included in the Definitive Edition and how much it’ll cost.

Despite positive reviews, Shadow of the Tomb Raider‘s commercial performance didn’t meet Square Enix’s expectations and its sales didn’t match its predecessors’ sales figures. For its part, Eidos Montreal said that it was “super happy” with the game’s performance, which it cited as one of the reasons the team continued to put out DLC.

“We think the main reason [Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Just Cause 4 got off to a weak start] is that we were unable to provide an experience that was novel enough that players would choose to buy them before any of the other numerous major titles on the competitive landscape,” Square Enix said back in February. “Also, while it is true that we are seeing a shift away from sales of boxes to digital downloads, with this many titles competing with one another, initial sales are definitely an important element in increasing user awareness. For that reason, we do need to engage in a certain amount of advertising just ahead of a new title’s launch.”

We’ll update our readers when we have more information.
