It’s been eight years since the launch of Warframe, which arrived as a launch title for the PlayStation 4. The free-to-play game has come quite a ways since then, as evidenced by our recent review for its subsequent launch on the PlayStation 5, also as a launch title. Developer Digital Extremes has seen fit to begin their official celebration of the game’s eight-year anniversary, and Lead Producer Dave Kudirka has come up with a list of eight reasons why you should be playing Warframe. Take a look at the advantages of diving in to the well-established game at this point in its development, and let us know if you’ve taken the plunge in the comments below. Before that, though, watch Digital Extremes’ celebratory trailer:
From Digital Extremes:
We’ve shared eight incredible years of action and excitement with Tenno both near and far. On behalf of everyone at Digital Extremes, thank you! And for those who haven’t tried Warframe yet, there’s eight years of award-winning content ready to be experienced on both the PS4 and PS5, for free. Whether you were here with us at the very beginning for Excalibur Prime or if you just started with Octavia Prime, today Warframe’s 8-Year Anniversary Event begins and we’d like to connect, create and celebrate with you.
A new generation of Warframe has begun. Here are eight of the many reasons why now is the best time to start playing Warframe. Did we mention we’re giving away a ton of free space loot?

Eight Reasons Why You Should Be Playing Warframe
-
Adventures Are Better Together
As a developer, we support a cooperative online game, but it is you, your friends, and more than 60 million other players from all over the globe who've come together to create a world where adventures are better experienced together. We read your stories... we watch your videos… we envy your Dojo... we truly enjoy seeing the community connect and cooperate. Which is why, when we launched on the PS5 we knew we had to deliver cross-play for you to connect with your PS4 friends to enjoy Warframe together.
If you are considering coming back to Warframe, or maybe you're new and want to see what all this space ninja hype is about, make sure you play during our limited-time weekend booster events to accelerate your progress. While you can play solo, we suggest you squad-up with three other players for a cooperative action combat experience unlike anything else. Learn from other Tenno Masters during our event so you can explore the Origin System with confidence.

Space Ninja Action Combat (and Parkour!)
Sounds a bit weird at first, but wait until you bullet jump across an alien planet battleground wielding a Kitana and a Flame Thrower. We are now so much more than what we were before and what we thought we’d become. Warframe has expanded beyond a single original tileset into a living breathing world. Now with 18 planets, more than 30 Quests, three open worlds and 46 Warframes (not all ninjas), each year we push the possibilities beyond our initial vision of frenetic space ninja action to better deliver the ultimate space fantasy to you.
Frequent free game updates with new content aren’t the only reasons to consider returning or trying Warframe. We’ve remastered some of our older content to improve the entirety of the experience for players of all levels.

The Fame of Fashion Framing
For some, fashion is the end-game, while others always want to slay in style. With each new update, we work effortlessly to increase the customization options you have. And make no mistake, it’s not just because of the art and content Digital Extremes creates, it’s also the amazing player-created designs released as in-game TennoGen items. Players no longer just wear customizations, they create them.
The Zephyr Deluxe Skin is one of our most recent releases and we haven’t been disappointed with the Fashion Frame images we’ve seen so far. The community’s imaginative, clever and creative ideas constantly surprise us.

The Power Trip of Being a Warframe
From player-made Warframes, such as Xaku, to our latest and greatest, Sevagoth, there are 46 different Warframes to master. Each Warframe has its own unique Abilities and play style. Sevagoth blends heavy damage and team support characteristics into a deadly reaper form. Power up the Death Well to unleash its spectral form, Shadow. The all-melee Shadow glides across the battlefield shredding everything in its path.

Build, Board and Battle as a Raljack Captain
As a Railjack captain you’ll engage in large ship-to-ship combat, planetary exploration and even close-quarter combat. Helpful player feedback guided our redesign of the Railjack system to simplify and improve the entire experience. Now, players of all ranks can easily take flight in epic space battles.
If you tried Railjack a while back, you’ll definitely notice all the positive improvements. Missions now include combat by Warframe, Archwing, Necramech and Railjack as well as new game modes “Volatile” and “Orphix.” Core reward loops have been overhauled and we even re-worked Command Intrinsics and Avionics Systems. We also added a hire-able AI crew to give you more control, more gametime, and less waiting around.

An Ever-Expanding Universe at War
Last week we released our 30th game update, Call of the Tempestarii, where players embarked on a cinematic adventure to confront a sinister Ghost Ship. With various missions, modes and ways to play, you’ll always find something new to loot and shoot. Nearly all modes are highly replayable and narrative driven Quests reveal and expand upon the main storyline.
Our latest Quest will steer you down an eerie path of unfulfilled prophecies and ghostly disturbances as you heed a strange beacon call. Chart a course through harrowing Void Storms and new Corpus boss battles to unveil a haunting story introducing the specter of death, Sevagoth. Completing this Quest sets the stage for even bigger battles later this year but of course we can’t talk about that just yet. Soon...

Next-Gen Performance Enhancements
We were there for the launch of the PS4 and now an entire console generation later, Warframe is running at up to 4K resolution and 60fps on the PS5. Better graphics and better performance for a true next-generation experience. If you are considering upgrading to the PS5, your PS4 progress will absolutely carry over so you can seamlessly pick up where you left off.
We look forward to exploring new next-gen possibilities to provide a better gameplay experience for you. Our commitment to continued improvement and innovation is only possible because of your passion and feedback. The best of Warframe is always yet to come... bigger and better with each update.
