The recent announcement of Alan Wake Remastered didn’t come as much of a surprise. Just before the remaster was confirmed, multiple retailers and databases outed its existence. Additionally, rumors of the former Microsoft exclusive going multiplatform had been swirling for a long time, especially after Remedy Entertainment obtained rights to the IP. Now, insiders say that Alan Wake Remastered is the first step towards a full-fledged sequel.
Journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb, who previously reported about Alan Wake Remastered, confirmed as much in a Giant Bomb video (thanks, Video Games Chronicle).
“They’re planning an Alan Wake sequel,” Grubb said. “This is something I’ve talked about before… they are working with Epic Games on producing an Alan Wake 2, or at least it’s in the planning stages. So does that turn into anything concrete and real? I’m hopeful. I think so. I don’t imagine it will get derailed.”
Remedy’s deal with Epic Games is being kept tightly under wraps, but Grubb’s comments fall in line with recent rumors of Alan Wake 2. That said, Grubb pointed out that Remedy is “super busy” with numerous projects including a Control spin-off as well as a Control sequel, so when we’ll see Alan Wake 2 is anybody’s guess.
“They’re super, super busy, so we’ll have to wait and see if that turns into anything soon or not,” Grubb continued. “But yeah, Alan Wake Remastered is them taking back Alan Wake and saying, ‘hey, this is one of our key franchises, we want people to remember it.”
