Side-scrolling skating title OlliOlli World will feature 4K graphics running in 120 fps on the PS5. The upcoming sequel to the hit indie skating series OlliOlli and OlliOlli 2 will launch for the PS4 and PS5 in 2021, and feature a treasure trove of character customization options and levels with branching paths, among many more features. Additionally, developer Roll7 has provided details about the new Burntrock biome included in the game.
Roll7 states that the game will offer “super-smooth” gameplay on the PS5. Players can enjoy the uniqueness and zaniness of NPCs, level details, tricks, and effects through the game’s 4K graphics, which the studio notes will also run at 120 fps on compatible devices. Though the game generally presents the world from a side-scrolling perspective, the character models and environments look to be designed in 3D—thus technically making the game 2.5D.
One of the new biomes is Burntrock; a desert-themed area resembling the American southwest. The desert area is home to campers, cacti, giant ancient fossils, and an event known as the Burntrock Fest. The area also provides plenty of breathing room for new players to learn new tricks, while allowing veteran players to try out more complicated techniques. Furthermore, the area also seems to include some details that are easy to miss:
Even though it’s a desert, it’s not barren but brimming with character, and that was something that felt really important to us when we were developing our game – we want it to be a living, breathing world for players to explore. The levels in Burntrock are designed to teach you new techniques, like grabs, whilst simultaneously providing you a chance to polish up the skills you’ve developed through the game so far.
OlliOlli World was revealed earlier this year and is the third game in the OlliOlli franchise. However, the game is a pretty significant departure from its pixel graphic-style roots, offering a host of new content such as a deep character and outfit customization system as well as hints to a possible level editor system.
OlliOlli World is headed to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Switch at an unspecified date this winter.
