GTA Trilogy Remaster

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Remaster Appears on Korean Rating Board, Possible November Release For GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas

A new listing on Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee website has added further evidence to the rumored Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster. The listing, which reveals that the remastered trilogy may be titled Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, has since been removed from the rating board. The remastered bundle is set to include three PS2-era Grand Theft Auto titles—Grand Theft Auto IIIGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Previous reports from August indicated that the GTA trilogy would release sometime between October and November. Specifically, Kotaku stated that the game would release for the PS4 and PS5, however, the pandemic was affecting release plans and that it could be subject to change. Originally, reports said the trilogy was planned as a bonus for those who purchased the upcoming PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto V.

Unfortunately, those plans seem to have changed as the PS5 and Xbox Series X release of GTA V was pushed to March 2022. Fortunately, Kotaku’s inside sources now state that Rockstar is planning to release the trilogy in November. And while it may seem a bit sudden for such a high-profile release, it’s important to note that Rockstar has already teased some important announcements coming on October 22, 2021—the 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III.

Rockstar has also mentioned that future remasters of its most popular titles would depend on the reception of its “initial rereleases.” This means that if the remastered GTA trilogy does well, there’s a chance we’ll also get to see a remastered Red Dead Redemption or Bully. Fans looking forward to the next mainline release in the Grand Theft Auto franchise will have to wait a bit though, as recent reports indicate that Rockstar plans to release Grand Theft Auto VI in 2025 at the earliest in order to avoid crunch conditions at the studio.
