Sherlock Holmes Chapter One Gameplay Overview Shows Off the Great Detective’s Investigation Skills

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is taking the eponymous detective back to his roots, as developer Frogwares explores events experienced by a young version of the character that made Sherlock the man most people know. In this open-world investigative adventure, Sherlock is on a Mediterranean island searching for answers about his mother’s death, and along the way, he’ll be solving a number of other cases and mysteries as well. A new Sherlock Holmes Chapter One gameplay overview shows off how he’ll be investigating those cases.

While young Sherlock is still a sharp lad, Frogwares is sure to point out that he’s less experienced than the skillful older detective most of us are used to, which means he may sometimes get things wrong and “make a complete fool of himself.” Sherlock is a stranger, and the islands residents are proud and prejudiced. This means that everything from looks, costume, and accent can have an impact on how and even if you are able to gather information regarding any particular mystery. You’ll not only need to piece together the mysteries, but also put together which disguises and roles will best help in your investigations.

Sherlock has a mind palace that allows players to piece together the clues they’ve gathered to come to a conclusion about the culprit of the crime. It is possible to misinterpret evidence, however, which could lead to selecting the wrong suspect. There are also moral choices to make, which could occasionally put truth and justice at odds with one another. Frogwares says that you can sympathize with culprits and sometimes decide their fates.

Incorrect accusations and moral decisions will never lead to game over screens. “Failure is part of the experience.” When you make a choice, you get to live with whatever the consequences are, even if you indict an innocent and let a guilty person walk free. Frogwares has also released other gameplay overviews showing different aspects of Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. The full game should take anywhere from 15 to 40 hours to complete, depending on how thorough you are.

There’s not much longer to wait now. Sherlock Holmes Chapter One will let players peek into Sherlock’s early life on November 16th, 2021.
