Santa Monica Studios has announced they will be bringing God of War to PC players and it has a January 14, 2022 release date. The game will be the third PlayStation Studios title to release on the platform. The studio also revealed the extraordinary success of the game on PlayStation 4, confirming it had sold 19.5 million copies as of August 2021.
The game tells the first part of the Norse Saga that will conclude with the release of God of War Ragnarok next year. Years after his battles against the Golds of Olympus, Kratos now lives with the Norse Gods and monsters. Here he raises his son to follow in his footsteps. When God of War is released on PC, it will come with all of the previously released updates and extra digital content, namely the Death’s Vow Armor Sets for Kratos and Atreus, Exile’s Guardian Shield Skin, Buckler of the Forge Shield Skin, Shining Elven Soul Shield Skin, and the Dökkenshieldr Shield Skin.
The PC version will come with true 4K resolution and unlocked framerates on supported devices. Those that can’t enjoy those options can make use of a “wide range” of graphical presets and options that will offer things like higher resolution shadows, improved screen space reflections, and enhancements to the ambient occlusion pipeline with GTAO and SSDO. There’s also 21:9 ultra-widescreen support. The game will integrate fully with NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling for high performance even with the graphics dialled up to their fullest. NVIDIA Reflex low latency technology allows for quicker better combat experiences. DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers will be supported, as will a variety of other gamepads. Those who prefer a keyboard and mouse setup can customise their keybindings too.
God of War was one of the PC ports discovered in the large GeForce Now internal database leak last month. Other PC ports yet to be confirmed from the leak are Returnal and Demon’s Souls. The game will be the third Playstation Studios title to be ported to PC after Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone. The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is due to follow later in the year. All of these are best-selling PlayStation games and, according to ex-Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden, they’re titles where their sales have pretty much plateaued. After selling 19.5 million copies on PS4, it’s understandable that Sony is now trying to reach out to a new audience on PC.
