Star Ocean The Divine Force

Star Ocean The Divine Force is Coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2022

Star Ocean The Divine Force—the sixth title in the Star Ocean series—is coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2022. Square Enix announced the new Star Ocean title at the recent State of Play in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary this year. Square Enix and the series’ original developers Tri-Ace are jointly developing the game. Additionally, an announcement trailer gives fans an idea of what gameplay will entail.

Compared to the previous game in the series, Integrity and FaithlessnessThe Divine Force leans more heavily on the sci-fi aspects of the Star Ocean franchise. Players control Raymond, the captain of a merchant vessel Ydas. The beginning of the trailer shows the Ydas under attack from Federation forces. Raymond and his crew are forced to evacuate to the underdeveloped planet of Aster IV, where they meet Laeticia, the princess of the local Kingdom of Aucerius.

The trailer showcases some pretty interesting new mechanics, including the ability to fly around the open world. Star Ocean The Divine Force boasts “one of the largest fields ever in the series,” which will allow players to take full advantage of this new flight mechanic. Players will be able to fly around in cities as well. You can also use flight to sneak up on enemies and approach them from above, giving the first-strike advantage in the game’s real-time combat system.

The first Star Ocean came out back in 1996. Since then, the franchise has seen a total of five mainline games, as well as one spin-off title and a mobile game. The Star Ocean series is most known for its unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements. Another key feature is its real-time combat system, which has been a staple of the series since the very first game.
