A Group of Fans Has Managed to Revive PlayStation Home More Than 6 Years After It Was Shut Down

Folks over at Destination Home, a group dedicated to the revival of PlayStation Home, has announced that it has managed to resurrect PlayStation 3’s beloved social world with help from the PSOne Emulation team as well as PS3 players who “donated” PS Home data from their consoles.

As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, Destination Home published a video to showcase the restoration, and has said that players should be able to connect to public and private lobbies by the end of this year – more than six years after Sony shut PS Home down.

Watch a demonstration in the video below.

“Today has been a monumental day for the Destination Home Team x PSOne Emulation Team, as we have finally hit a point in our development to have full lobby sessions working on the original PlayStation 3!” Destination Home wrote. “This means users can join public/private lobbies just like the good ole’ times on PlayStation Home! In this teaser, you can see that we have some fan-favorite spaces e.g. The Hub, Bowling Alley, Playground, etc. that are ready to be re-explored by our core fan base. By you guys donating much-needed Home data from your personal PlayStation 3 consoles, the team would like to say THANK YOU, for making this possible!”

The test featured in the video above was conducted on November 23rd.

Back in August, internet sleuths discovered that Sony had updated its PS Home trademark filing twice in a matter of a few months this year. Speculation suggests that the social world might make a return with PS VR 2.
