Dark Life: Excalibur, a medieval action-adventure title by indie developer Zero Studios, won Best Game at this year’s 8th annual Spanish PlayStation Awards. Sony Interactive Entertainment Spain hosted the event on December 21, 2021, which featured some of the most promising and upcoming indie titles of the country. Other awards included Best Art, Most Innovative Game, and Best Narrative, among many others. Prominent Sony figure and Head of Indies Initiative Shuhei Yoshida also appeared at the event.
A 3D adventure title, Dark Life: Excalibur puts players in the shoes of Aron. After York, the Lord of Giants murders his family, Aron is bound to the mythical sword of Excalibur and sets off on a path of revenge. With each enemy killed, the player receives points that can be used to strengthen the sword’s power or acquire perks.
As winners of the Best Game Award, Zero Studios will receive a €10,000 cash prize as well as development kits, mentoring from the PlayStation Spain team, and their own marketing campaign. Furthermore, they will also have 10 months of free access to one of the PlayStation Talents Games camps located in Spain for further developing the game.

Similar to the Japan PlayStation Partner Awards, the Spain PlayStation Awards is an SIE Spain-led initiative started in 2014. With a unique focus on independent game developers, the event hopes to highlight Spain’s talent and promote the local game industry.
