Insomniac Games’ senior cinematic animator Lindsay Thompson has revealed that Xbox console-exclusive Sunset Overdrive was “a huge proving ground” for Marvel’s Spider-Man PS5 and PS4 games, including Miles Morales, as well as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
In response to a tweet from a fan who shared a clip from Sunset Overdrive, Thompson wrote that Insomniac’s recent games have all helped development of the next one.
How Sunset Overdrive influenced Insomniac’s Spider-Man
I think a really cool thing to note is how all of our recent games have paved the way for the next one. This game was a huge proving ground for all the work we ended up getting to do later in Spider-Man, Miles, and Rift Apart. It was super fun to make too! #sunsetoverdrive https://t.co/QpvrBbW3By

This isn’t the first time Insomniac has given credit to Sunset Overdrive for Spider-Man‘s development. Back in 2018, creative director Bryan Intihar told GamesRadar that making Sunset Overdrive gave the studio “a leg-up in terms of getting things started” on Spider-Man. “We thought, okay, we know how to build an open world, we knew how to build New York, we knew how to make a game based on traversal, and we wanted Spider-Man to have kind of the same sense of flow and overall style that we had in Sunset,” he said.
Opinion: Spider-Man makes me want Sunset Overdrive on PlayStation
Zarmena writes… Come on, Sony. You have Insomniac Games and all of its IPs, it’s time to give PlayStation owners what they’ve been asking for since the famous acquisition: Sunset Overdrive. While it’s understandable that Sony doesn’t want to bog the busy Insomniacs down by handing them projects pertaining to their older games, it would be nice if someone at PlayStation Studios remastered Sunset Overdrive for PS5 and PS4. Make it happen!
In other news, WWE 2K22 cover and release info has leaked, and Hogwarts Legacy may be delayed again.
