Kao the Kangaroo is the latest noughties platforming mascot to get a revival on the latest consoles. Developer Tate Multimedia has revealed the Kao the Kangaroo will be appearing on PS5 and PS4 later this year and will be embarking on his biggest adventure yet.
Who is Kao the Kangaroo?
Kao (pronounced K-O) made his debut in 2000 in a 3D platformer on the SEGA Dreamcast. Nearly 17 years after his last title in 2005, Kao will be returning in a reboot on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 that’s imaginatively titled Kao the Kangaroo. His “biggest adventure yet” will take him to various locations across the world as he tries to locate his sister and find out why his long-lost father mysteriously disappeared. Bearing in mind there are famous fighting masters standing in his way, each of which are controlled by a dark power, his boxing gloves that can be customised with different magical powers will help deal with those opponents. There are also plenty of secrets to find and items to collect.
The accompanying trailer initially seems to show off a peaceful tropical paradise with sandy beaches, brightly painted thatched huts… and very angry crabs. Lots of very angry crabs:
Kao the Kangaroo will launch this summer both digitally and at retail. As well as PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, players can also grab the game on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
In other news, Guerrilla Games has announced Horizon Forbidden West has gone gold. Theyalso released short gameplay clips showing the game in action on PS4 Pro. Elsewhere, Ubisoft’s beleaguered Hyper Scape will have its servers closed in three months time.
