During today’s financial results, Ubisoft revealed the titles that they currently have in development but there were several notable absences. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, The Division Heartland, Rocksmith+, XDefiant, nor Roller Champions were all missing from the latest report from Ubisoft. The good news is that Beyond Good & Evil 2 still lives but it’s not likely to be released during this next financial year.
What has Ubisoft planned for next year?
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot promised the company has “the richest pipeline of games in Ubisoft’s history”. Not only are they intending to release more premium games to expand their portfolio, they’re also planning to “bring our established franchises to a significantly wider audience through free-to-play”. During the next fiscal year, running from April 2022 to the end of March 2023, Ubisoft is planning to release Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Skull & Bones, as well as the Nintendo Switch-exclusive Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and “more exciting games”.
Before those, Oddballers is due to be released on March 24, 2022. The report also mentioned how the company had invested in Beyond Good and Evil 2, confirming the game was still very much in their thoughts. Others to be mentioned were the Ubisoft Star Wars game, the Splinter Cell remake, and “unannounced new IPs” that will “expand our premium portfolio in a significant way”.
Absolutely nowhere to be seen were Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Rocksmith+, and The Division: Heartland, a strange move for three games that were also supposed to be releasing soon. Back in October, Ubisoft announced they had six premium titles currently scheduled to release during the next financial year and those three games were on the list. If they were still planned for release during the same year, it’s strange for Ubisoft not to mention them specifically in their report, although they could still be part of the “more exciting games” category.
XDefiant also absent from the report. However, player tests at the end of 2021 were run using pre-alpha builds of the game and it still has quite a way to go in development. As this game has never received a release window, its lack of mention in this report isn’t too much of a concern.
Meanwhile, Roller Champions was supposed to be released before the end of March 2022 but that seems incredibly unlikely to happen now. The fate of the game was already in question after Ubisoft declared it “is no longer factored in the guidance” back in October. With months of radio silence following a closed beta, as well as a Twitter account that unexpectedly fell silent back in June, we’re even wondering if we’re ever going to see the game again.
In other news, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Dawn of Ragnarok will be Ubisoft’s biggest ever expansion when it is released in March. Elsewhere, Sony has unveiled a Clawstrider statue to promote Horizon Forbidden West in Sydney and it comes with a PS5 Treat Code.
