After teasing a revival of the Soul Hackers franchise with a mysterious countdown site, Atlus has announced Soul Hackers 2 will be arriving on PS5 and PS4 in August. The RPG is being produced and directed by Eiji Ishida (Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Shin Megami Tensei IV) and Mitsuru Hirata (Radiant Historia, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE).
When will Soul Hackers 2 be released?
Soul Hackers 2 will be released on August 25 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in Japan while following on August 26 worldwide. The story, as translated by Gematsu, takes place in the near future during a war between devil summoners. Ringo and her team are Aions, beings that watch over the world and can sense an impending apocalypse. The Aions head into the human world to find the two people needed to save the world, but find they’ve already become victims of the war. They revive the two victims using their special Soul Hack ability but can they still prevent the end of the world?
The brand new story seems to have no connection to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, a game originally published on the SEGA Saturn in 1997. While it was later ported to PlayStation, neither version made it outside of Japan. English speaking players finally got to try the game on Nintendo 3DS in 2012. The good news is that Soul Hackers 2 will be released worldwide a day after the title arrives in Japan.
In other news, Final Fantasy XIV will get support for another ten years. In the shorter term, graphical imporvements will be made and players will soon be able to enjoy more content as a solo player alongside a crew of AI NPCs as the Trust Support system is extended. Elsewhere, rumors have started that an RPG based on Avatar: The Last Airbender is in development for consoles.
