Supermassive Games Makes The Quarry a Summer Camp Worth Dying For

Supermassive Games isn’t just working on The Dark Pictures Anthology. The developer has just announced they have teamed up with 2K Games to release The Quarry on PS4 and PS5, a teen-horror narrative game that features an impressive cast of Hollywood talent and a “summer camp worth dying for”.

What is The Quarry?

The Quarry is an “interactive narrative experience” with a horror theme. The last day of summer camp is drawing to a close and the nine teenage counselors are celebrating without being interrupted by kids, adults or rules. As you can imagine, though, the event isn’t a happy love story. With blood-drenched locals and “something far more sinister” determined to hunt them down, the counselors find themselves in a fight for survival where every decision can have an impact on how the story plays out.

The game features quite a line-up of Hollywood stars. David Arquette (Scream) plays camp owner and operator Chris, while the counselors include Ariel Winter (Modern Family), Justice Smith (Jurassic World), and Brenda Song (Dollface). Taking on the roles of some of the locals you don’t want to meet are Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and Lin Shaye (A Nightmare on Elm Street).

Most people will likely be thinking The Quarry is standard fare for Supermassive Games, although it’s a first for 2K. However, the difference with this game is that up to eight players can join in the fun. Those playing online will be able to watch along and vote on key decisions. A couch co-op experience lets those players each assume the role of a different counselor instead. There’s even Movie Mode where the game lets players decide the outcome of the story and then turns it into a “binge-worthy cinematic thriller”. There will be no cross-gen or cross-platform multiplayer, though.

When The Quarry launches on PS4 and PS5 on June 10, it will come in two different versions. The standard version is available both digitally and physically through the 2K Games Store for either PS4 or PS5. As well as the standard version, their is a digital-only Deluxe Edition that includes both PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, instant access to the Death Rewind mode, the Gorefest Movie Mode option, and future post-launch DLC in the form of ’80s-themed character outfits.

Those who pre-order either edition will receive the Horror History Visual Filter Pack, where players can go through the entire game with one of three cinematic filters applied: Indie Horror, ’80s Horror, and Black-and-White Classic Horror. Pre-orders are open right now.

In other news, Hogwarts Legacy got nearly 20 minutes of gameplay and a holiday season release window during today’s PlayStation State of Play show. Elsewhere, Gran Turismo 7 servers have been down all day following an issue with update 1.07.
