Hello Games co-founder and managing director Sean Murray has revealed that the studio is working on a “pretty ambitious” new project but it’s not No Man’s Sky 2. In an interview with IGN, Murray said that although the mystery project is quite significant in scale, Hello Games remains a small team of developers and “we like it that way.”
It’s not No Man’s Sky 2 but it’s just as ambitious
Murray told IGN that Hello Games has been quietly working on the mystery game in the background. “Similar to No Man’s Sky, it’s the kind of project that even if we had a thousand people working on it, it’d still seem impossible,” he said. “No Man’s Sky is not being held back by the next project but neither is the new thing being slowed by No Man’s Sky. We’re lucky enough to be able to allow folks to move freely to work on what excites them.” The unannounced game is still in early development.
It’s unlikely Hello Games will talk about the mystery project for a while. Murray previously said that he learned his lesson from No Man’s Sky. For those who don’t remember, Murry frequently appeared in interviews and touted No Man’s Sky as a unique, ambitious new game unlike anything done before, significantly drumming up hype. No Man’s Sky was quite a mess upon launch, settling for middling reviews, with Murray coming under fire and falling off the radar as a result. That said, No Man’s Sky is a masterclass on how to turn things around and it can’t be denied that Hello Games has worked tirelessly to make the game what it is today: a successful, award-winning, ongoing experience.
In other news, speculations of Sony acquiring Kojima Productions are making rounds after the company updated PlayStation Studios banner to add Death Stranding, and PS Store’s spring sale has been updated to add hundreds of games.
