CD Projekt Red is working on other unannounced games as well as Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher, and Gwent. According to their latest financial results, there are two AAA projects currently in progress, although one of these will be the previously announced new game in The Witcher franchise.
What games are in development at CD Projekt Red?
CD Projekt Red continues to work on Cyberpunk 2077. Around 10% of the team is supporting the current game, including the next-gen PS5 and Xbox series X|S versions, while a further 20% are working on the upcoming DLC expansion. approximately 15% of the team are working on Gwent projects, such as a single-player mode for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
This leaves around 50% of the team working on other projects that include the new game in The Witcher franchise. Further on in the financial report, CD Projekt Red clarifies that they are carrying out “conceptual and research work on unannounced projects” and that they’ve also built two independent teams to work on two AAA projects. While one of those AAA projects will be the new The Witcher game, the other one is still a mystery and could possibly be a completely new IP unassociated with any of their existing franchises.
You may have noticed those percentages didn’t quite add up to 100%. This is because the remaining 5% of the team is split between SPOKKO and The Molasses Flood. The former is working on mobile games while the latter is working on an “unannounced project based on one of our franchises“. This is likely to be something within the Gwent, Cyberpunk, or The Witcher universes.
The company also gave us an update on its sales figures for their existing titles. Cyberpunk 2077 has now reached more than 18 million copies sold, meaning it has shifted 4 million over the past 12 months. Meanwhile, The Witcher franchise has sold more than 65 million copies between the three games, 40 million of which have been The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This means The Witcher 3 has sold 10 million over the past year while the first two games shifted another 5 million units between them.
In other news, Pedro Pascal avoided playing The Last of Us in its entirety so he didn’t mimic too much of the game’s version of Joel in the new HBO series. Elsewhere, CD Projekt Red insists The Witcher 3 has not been delayed indefinitely on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
