Sonic Origins release date

Sonic Origins Arrives on PS5 and PS4 in June With Plenty of DLC Options

Nearly a year after its brief announcement during the Sonic Central Live Stream 30th anniversary event, Sonic Origins has finally stepped out of the shadows with details and a release date. The game will be arriving on PS5 and PS4 in just a couple of months’ time and comes with plenty of DLC that is currently managing to confuse everyone.

When will Sonic Origins be released?

Sonic Origins’ release date on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC will be June 23, 2022, the 31st anniversary of the very first Sonic The Hedgehog game on SEGA Genesis. The collection includes Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, all of which can be played in the classic mode or in a remastered Anniversary mode. Classic mode is the closest players will get to the original game experience with finite lives and game overs. On the other hand, Anniversary Mode provides remastered full-screen graphics and an infinite number of lives to make sure players reach the end of the game.

The collection also includes new animated content, new modes like Boss Rush and Blue Spheres, and missions. Completing missions will reward medallions that can be used to unlock more content from the vault, like the Special Stages. There’s also plenty of DLC to think about, although SEGA did manage to confuse a lot of people by releasing an overly-complicated chart.

As well as the standard edition, players can purchase the Deluxe Edition, which includes the Premium Fun Pack and the Classic Music Pack DLCs. The Premium Fun Pack includes Hard missions, Letterbox Background, character animation in the Main Menu, camera controls over the islands in the Main Menu, and character animations during the Music Islands. The Classic Music Pack DLC includes additional music tracks from the Genesis versions of the games. Both DLCs can also be purchased separately. Regardless of which version you choose to purchase, those who pre-order the game will get 100 Bonus Coins, instant access to Mirror Mode, and a Mega Drive pattern Letterbox Background.

In other news, God of War Ragnarok will still be released this year despite not being in a position to be shown to the public right now. Elsewhere, Sony is apparently planning to create ways to put adverts in free-to-play games from the end of 2022.
