A fake Final Fantasy 16 State of Play “leak” has been making rounds, giving fans hope that the game will appear at today’s event. Unfortunately, that leak is just a fan-made image and not a real thing. What got everyone excited (and perhaps that’s what the “leaker” exploited) was Sony updating Final Fantasy 16’s PlayStation Store page ahead of the event. But that doesn’t mean anything and this isn’t the first time the store listing has been updated.
Is there still possibility of a Final Fantasy 16 State of Play showcase?
Sony has said that today’s State of Play will focus on PSVR 2 games and games brought to you by third-party partners. Square Enix certainly falls in the latter category but we wouldn’t advise getting your hopes up. It’s a 30-minute showcase and there’s only so much Sony will pack into it. And if recent State of Play events are any indication, we know not to expect much.

That said, never say never. Square Enix has indicated on numerous occasions that it’ll share more Final Fantasy 16 news sometime during the summer and considering we’re into June, there’s a slight chance we’ll hear something at the Summer Game Fest – whether that means State of Play or the main Summer Game Fest event kicking off on June 9th is anybody’s guess right now. Square Enix could, of course, do its own thing for Final Fantasy and not be part of any existing events.
Don’t forget to tune into PlayStation LifeStyle later today for the livestream!
In other news, we’ve got the Japanese PS Plus Classics and PS4/PS5 catalog now, and PlayStation has established a software development unit in China.
