Sly Cooper 20th Anniversary Celebrated With New Merchandise But No New Game

Sly Cooper, everyone’s favorite raccoon master thief, has celebrated his 20th anniversary today with the release of new merchandise on the PlayStation Gear Store and other online retailers. To some players’ disappointment, though, the occasion has not been used to announce a new game, something for which fans have been waiting for a long time.

New merchandise means Sly Cooper is still in Sony’s thoughts

The official 20th anniversary of Sly Cooper is September 23, although the celebrations started earlier this week with the release of The Sly Collection, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and Bentley’s Hackpack on PS Plus Premium. All of these games have also been represented in a brand new artwork created by original Sly Cooper art director Dev Madan. The large poster, which can be seen above but really needs a full-size image to be done justice, is “jam-packed with references and easter eggs”.

Those wanting to get their hands on the artwork have three different options. The first is an 18″ x 24″ poster print available through the PlayStation Gear Store for $24.95. The remaining options are available from Cook & Becker. Available in an ultra high-quality fine art print, the 28” x 40” version is limited to 40 hand-numbered pieces and is priced starting at $225. Meanwhile, the 20″ x 28″ version is limited to 150 hand-numbered pieces and is priced from $120. Both of the Cook & Becker versions will include a Certificate of Authenticity.

The PlayStation Gear Store will also be listing a Sly Cooper 20th Anniversary t-shirt design featuring Bentley, Murray, Carmelita Fox and Sly on the front and the Sly Cooper 20th Anniversary logo on the sleeve. The shirt is priced at $33.95. Finally, Fangamer will be selling a new 9″ Sly Cooper 20th Anniversary Plush complete with detachable plush cane. Prices for the plush are unavailable but players can sign up to Fangamer to be notified when pre-orders become available.

Those desperately hoping for news of a new game will be disappointed to hear Sucker Punch once again confirm they’ve “moved on to new worlds since then”. The developer had already said back in July that they weren’t working on Sly Cooper and neither were any other studios, but they did also say there was a chance the door could be reopened further down the road.

In other news, Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 will add Triple Circle Collapse mode. Elsewhere, a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta update has brought back Ground War.
