According to a new report, Microsoft wants Genshin Impact rival on Xbox after seeing the game’s success on PS4 and PS5. Reuters’ sources claim that Microsoft “regrets” missing out on the popular action role-playing game by miHoYo, and has accelerated its search for a Chinese developer to bring something similar to its ecosystem. Interestingly, Microsoft was reportedly in talks with miHoYo at one point, but those talks fell through.
Genshin Impact PlayStation versions have made a lot of money for Sony
There’s no indication that Sony has any kind of exclusivity deal with miHoYo considering Genshin Impact is available on virtually every platform except for Xbox. Despite being quizzed by fans, the studio has kept mum about its plans so we don’t know for sure if Genshin Impact will ever launch for Xbox or not. However, if the content of Reuters’ report is any indication, it doesn’t look like the game will be on Xbox. At least not anytime soon.
“Picking up Genshin Impact made Sony a lot of money,” said a Reuters’ source. Apparently, Microsoft has been interested in Chinese developers for a while but felt a sense of urgency seeing the game’s success on a rival platform and is now actively pursuing its own Genshin Impact-like success story.
