God of War Ragnarok leaks have once again sparked a debate about physical games vs digital downloads as the leaks stemmed from a retailer breaking street date, according to Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog. Spoilers from the game were making rounds all weekend, prompting an official statement from the studio. Barlog separately expressed his frustration over the matter, tweeting that he now understands the benefit of having physical discs with just installers on it.
God of War Ragnarok leaks and spoilers prompt official warning
Barlog’s tweet concerned a large number of fans, who highlighted the importance of having games on disc. He later clarified that he was not advocating for replacing physical games with digital downloads, and was merely expressing his frustration. It’s unclear which retailer broke street date two weeks ahead of launch.
“We ask that you please be considerate of the many fans who do not want to accidentally see clips, gameplay, or narrative spoilers, and avoid sharing them wider,” Santa Monica Studio pleaded. “For those who do not want to risk seeing anything before launch, we strongly advise that you mute any keywords or hashtags associated with the game until release day.”
God of War Ragnarok will release on November 9th for PS5 and PS4.
