Sony surprised everyone last night at CES 2023 with the announcement of a highly customizable new PS5 controller, with a wide variety of accessibility features designed for players with disabilities. Called Project Leonardo, the controller is a much welcome addition to Sony’s PS5 offering, opening up PlayStation gaming to an even wider audience.
PS5 controller Project Leonardo can be paired with DualSense
Sony provided a lengthy breakdown of Project Leonardo’s features over on the PS Blog, revealing that not only does it feature swappable components, it can also be paired with the DualSense.
Alongside hardware customizations, Project Leonardo features software customization options like extensive button mapping and profiles. Players can use up to two Project Leonardo controllers and one DualSense together as a single virtual controller. This means that players can program the devices, and mix and match practically everything to fit their needs.
Project Leonardo controllers can be expanded, thanks to their four 3.5mm AUX ports. Sony has said it’ll allow the controllers to be used with third-party accessibility accessories.
The controller is currently in development and Sony has yet to provide a launch window.
