The value of free games offered with PS Plus Essential in 2022 amounted to $1,304.63, taking into account PS Store prices in December 2022. Folks over at Polygon report that the total value of PS Plus Essential games in 2022 was a little less than 2021 ($1,424.60). Last year, PS Plus underwent a significant revamp, with Sony splitting the service into three tiers.
PS Plus Essential 2022 offerings not impacted by PS Plus revamp
Comparing 2022 with previous years, one can conclude that the revamp did not impact the most basic tier of PS Plus. While Extra and Premium game catalogs continue to change, PS Plus Essential games are for players to keep as long as their subscription remains active. Even if they let their subscriptions run out, whenever players re-subscribe, they can instantly gain access to previously-redeemed PS Plus Essential games.
Overall, Sony offered two first-party games with PS Plus Essential: God of War (2018) and Ghost of Tsushima‘s Legends multiplayer mode. Interestingly, EA was the publisher with the most amount of games on PS Plus. Polygon also found that the average metascore of the free games stood at 78, and the average age of the games was a little over two years.
Do note that the PS Store runs sales promotions all year round, so prices continue to change.
