Microsoft Activision Deal: Sony Met EU Regulator Again to Thwart the Merger – Report

Sony’s apparently continuing its attempts to block the Microsoft Activision deal, meeting EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager as recently as this week. The outcome of the meeting, which reportedly took place between Vestager and SIE CEO Jim Ryan, is not known at present.

EU will rule on Microsoft Activision deal in April

The European Commission is set to give its verdict on Microsoft’s Activision merger proposal in April. Reuters, who first reported on the meeting between Vestager and Ryan, says that its source declined to share details of the discussion but we recon it had something to do with the objections that the EU plans to file this week. At the time of this writing, the charge sheet has not been made public, and we don’t know if it has been formally filed yet or not.

Over in the United States, the Federal Trade Commission has already sued to block the acquisition, with recent reports suggesting that the FTC filed its lawsuit in a rush in order to push its European/UK counterparts not to make any concessions. However, this report sounds quite dubious as the EU and UK are not bound to FTC’s decisions nor are they impacted by them.
