The Last of Us HBO Is the Most Popular (and Most Torrented) Show Online

The Last of Us HBO series has been named the “most popular show online” right now, according to Television Stats. The site analyzes TV shows based on online engagement as a way to estimate audience activity, since many networks and streamers only share viewership numbers when they’re positive. Based on its analysis, The Last of Us series is currently dominating multiple websites, including Wikipedia, Twitter, Reddit, and IMDB.

The Last of Us HBO series online stats are impressive

The latest report from Television Stats as of today, January 27 shares the following online audience data on The Last of Us show:

  • #1 Most Torrented show
  • #1 Most Visited Wikipedia page
  • #1 fastest-growing on Reddit
  • #1 fastest-growing on Twitter
  • #1 IMDb popularity
  • #16 most searched term on Google

The fact that the series is the most Torrented show at the moment could be a part of the reason why HBO has decided to make the first episode free to watch online. The high Google ranking for “The Last of Us” could also be partly due to an easter egg that appears when users try to search for it.

The good news doesn’t end there, either. Variety reports that Nielsen, along with first-party data from Warner Bros. Discovery, says that the second episode brought in 5.7 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max. That’s a 22% increase from the first episode, which had a total of 4.7 million viewers (with 10 million views over two days of availability).
