Hogwarts Legacy Runs Better on PS5 Than on Xbox Series X

Now that a new patch has been deployed, fixing various crashes and Trophy issues, the time has come to properly assess Hogwarts Legacy‘s performance. Interestingly, despite the Microsoft flagship’s more powerful hardware, the new Harry Potter game runs better on the PS5 than on the Xbox Series X.

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 vs. Xbox Series X

As discovered by Digital Foundry, while both consoles deliver the same visual quality, the PS5 version “offers up a significantly more consistent experience than its Series X counterpart.”

The PS5 version in Performance Mode manages a “nearly locked” 60 FPS and the Fidelity and Fidelity ET modes achieve a consistent 30 FPS that is “very difficult to [drop] at all.”

Performance Mode on Xbox Series X, on the other hand, is “very shaky,” with “dropped frames being [a near constant.]”

Generally, PS5 performance is better than Xbox Series X across the many different visual modes, so it’s a win for the Sony console.

It’s worth noting that inconsistencies with frame rates can be alleviated somewhat using a VRR-enabled display, but having a stable in-game frame rate is definitely the preferred option.

Wondering how well Hogwarts Legacy is selling? Well, it’s one of the biggest game launches in the EU since Red Dead Redemption 2.
