HBO’s The Last of Us Director Addresses Episode 3 Review Bombing

The Last of Us episode 3 review bombing campaign didn’t go unnoticed by the TV show’s director Craig Mazin. Two of the HBO series’ season 1 episodes were handed one-star ratings on IMDB, with the other one being episode 7 “Left Behind.” Both episodes have one thing in common: same-sex romance.

The Last of Us review bombing doesn’t bother TV show directors

Mazin addressed the review bombing, particularly that of episode 3 “Long, Long Time,” in a new interview with GQ Magazine. He said that he prefers that the audience forms a “strong opinion” about a storyline rather than show indifference towards it.

According to Mazin, a 1/10 is better than viewers being indifferent, which he considers “the least favorable outcome.”

“It’s one of the lower-rated shows on IMDB for one reason – a lot of people came on and gave it a 1/10,” Mazin told GQ. “And that’s because there are incredibly strong opinions one way or the other, but I would much rather have a show that lives off of 10s and 1s, than a show that lives off of 5s.”

Mazin said that the team is “incredibly proud” of The Last of Us episode 3 and acknowledged its positive reception despite the review bombing campaign.
