It looks like a PlayStation handheld is indeed in the works. Two known insiders have corroborated its existence, and we now have more details in a fresh report by none other than the trusty Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming.
PlayStation handheld is reportedly a remote play device
According to journalist and insider Jeff Grubb, he’s heard rumblings of a cloud gaming device. However, Henderson’s report disputes this. He claims that the handheld is a remote play device that requires a PS5.
Code named Q Lite, the handheld will reportedly support adaptive streaming up to 1080p and 60 frames-per-second, and it will need to be connected to the internet at all times to function. Henderson further claims to have seen prototypes of Q Lite, which apparently resembles the PS5’s DualSense controller but with an eight-inch LCD touchscreen in the middle.
Insider Gaming has also heard that Q Lite is currently undergoing quality assurance testing, and has doubled down on the claim that it will launch before both the rumored PS5 Pro and PS5 with a detachable disc drive. If reports of PS5 Pro targeting a holiday 2024 release are true, this possibly means that Q Lite could release anywhere between later this year to mid 2024.
